Overcoming Embarrassing Tree Sap Stains on Your One-Piece Swimsuit

Nobody likes it when tree sap gets stuck on their clothes or swimsuit. Not only can it be a bit embarrassing if you’re out in public, but most people don’t know how to get rid of it. Tree sap is tough and sticky, so it can be hard to remove. Fortunately, there are a few methods for removing tree sap from your one-piece swimsuit that are relatively easy and not too time consuming.

Method 1: Rubbing Alcohol

Rubbing alcohol is an effective solution for removing tree sap stains as it breaks down the sap’s consistency. Start by soaking your swimsuit in cold water for 15 minutes to help loosen the stain. Then, blot stain with a clean cloth until it’s damp. Using a cotton swab, apply some rubbing alcohol directly onto stain and let it sit for a few minutes. After the rubbing alcohol has had a chance to soak into the fabric, rinse it off with cold water and repeat the process if necessary.

Method 2: Vinegar Solution

Vinegar is another powerful solution for removing tree sap stains. Mix a solution of one part white vinegar and one part warm water. Soak your swimsuit in the mixture for 15 minutes, then use a toothbrush to scrub the sap away. If needed, add a bit of gentle laundry detergent to mix and rub affected area lightly. Once you have removed the stain, rinse off the swimsuit with cold water and throw it in the washing machine.

Method 3: Freeze the Stain

If all else fails, you can try freezing the stain. Put your swimsuit in the freezer overnight and the sap should be much easier to remove. The cold temperature will make sap brittle, making it easier to scrape away with a dull knife or spoon. Once you’ve removed as much sap as possible, put it in the washing machine on a gentle cycle to finish off the job.

Avoiding Tree Sap Stains

Clearly the best way to deal with tree sap stains is to avoid them altogether. Be careful when sitting under trees and watch out for falling sap. If you’re wearing a one-piece swimsuit, consider adding a layer of protection such as a towel to avoid direct contact with the sap. You can also try spraying your skin or clothing with a protective oil such as olive oil, as this might help prevent sap from sticking.
