The first step in removing tree sap stains from mohair is to make sure to act quickly. If the sap has been on the fabric for more than a few hours, it can be much harder to remove. Keep a towel or some other fabric nearby while you’re working to avoid spreading the sap.
Once you’ve identified the sap stain, you’ll need to prepare a paste to help remove it. To make the paste, mix one tablespoon baking soda with two teaspoons of white vinegar and enough water to form a thick paste. Apply the paste directly onto the sap stain and let it sit for five minutes.
After the five minutes are up, you’ll want to dab at the stain gently with a damp cloth. Do your best not to rub too hard or you might damage mohair. Once you’ve finished dabbing, rinse the area with cold water and dry gently.
If you’ve followed all the steps above and the stain still hasn’t been removed, try using a small amount of rubbing alcohol directly on the stain. Don’t soak the mohair, as this could damage the fabric. Instead, just apply a small amount and let it sit for five minutes. Then dab the area with a cloth until the stain is gone.
Lastly, if all else fails, you can always seek professional help to get stubborn tree sap stains out of your mohair. A dry cleaner may be able to help if you’ve exhausted all other options.
