The easiest way to deal with a tree sap stain is to prevent it from setting. As soon as you notice sap on your clothing, take it off and set it aside for treatment. Do not put the article of clothing in the washer or try to wash it, as this will only make the stain worse.
The most effective way to get rid of tree sap from Merino wool is to freeze it. Use an ice bag, cold pack, or a plastic bag with ice cubes to keep the item cold and brittle. You could also place the stained garment in freezer for several hours. This will make it easier to remove the sap, as it will become brittle and flake off.
Once the sap has become brittle, use a hard-bristled brush to gently brush away the sap from the Merino wool fabric. Be cautious when brushing, as you don't want to damage fabric of the item. If the sap has hardened, use a sharp object such as a knife to cautiously scrape away the sap.
After you have removed as much sap as possible, use a wool-safe stain remover to treat the area. Gently dab the stain remover onto the sap-stained area and allow it to sit for several minutes before washing. This will help to ensure that all residue is removed.
Finally, once all the sap has been removed from item, you can wash it according to the instructions on the label. This will help restore the item's original color and look. Be sure to use a mild detergent and cold water when washing Merino wool items.
