Before applying any cleaning solutions, use a clean cloth or paper towel to gently wipe away any excess sap. If necessary, you can use your fingernail to scrape off any sap that has hardened onto your shoe.
Once the majority of the sap has been removed, use a few drops of laundry detergent or carpet cleaner and a toothbrush to scrub the affected area. Be sure to use a soft bristled brush so as not to damage material. After the detergent has been applied and the area has been worked over with the brush, use a damp cloth to rinse away the detergent and residue.
If the stain is still visible, the next step is to apply a cleaning solution. First, use white vinegar to moisten the stained area. Let the vinegar sit for a few minutes before wiping away any excess. If there is still a visible stain, try gently dabbing the area with a cotton ball soaked in non-acetone nail polish remover. After the area has been cleaned, rinse with a damp cloth.
Once the cleaning solutions have been rinsed away, let the area dry and check to see if the stain was successfully removed. If the stain persists, you may need to repeat the cleaning process. If the stain is still evident, you may need to take the shoes to a professional cleaner who is experienced in removing tough tree sap stains from shoes.
