What You Will Need

  • White vinegar: Vinegar is an effective and natural cleaning agent that can dissolve dirt and get rid of odours.
  • Baking soda: Baking soda works as a gentle and effective abrasive cleaner, which can be helpful in removing difficult stains.
  • An old toothbrush: This will help you scrub the tree sap without damaging the fabric.
  • Dish soap: Dish soap helps to release the oils and other compounds in sap.
  • Laundry detergent: To finish up cleaning process.

Step-By-Step Instructions

  1. Apply some white vinegar directly to the stain and let it soak in overnight. This will help break down the sap and make it easier to remove.
  2. The next morning, mix a tablespoon of baking soda into a cup of water. Dip an old toothbrush into the mixture and use it to scrub the sap stain gently. Be careful not to rub too hard, as this could damage the fabric.
  3. After scrubbing stain with the baking soda, rinse the area with warm water and let it air dry.
  4. Mix a teaspoon of dish soap and a tablespoon of laundry detergent in a bowl of warm water. Soak the jumper in the soapy solution for 30 minutes, then rinse it with clean water.
  5. Let jumper air dry completely before wearing it again.

Tips & Tricks

  • Vinegar: If sap has been there for a while, you may need to pour some vinegar directly onto the stain and let it soak in for a few hours before scrubbing.
  • Baking soda: If the baking soda solution doesn’t seem to be working, try adding a teaspoon of white vinegar to the mixture.
  • Soap solution: If the jumper is made of a delicate material, you should not use a lot of detergent in the soapy solution as this could damage the fabric.
