To start off, try and remove any remaining wet sap from the jacket fabric. The best tool for this is a credit card or thin plastic spatula. Gently scrape away the residue, being careful not to press too hard and damage the fabric.
Once you have removed the majority of the wet tree sap, it’s time to tackle the stain itself. Begin by mixing some regular detergent into lukewarm water and using a soft cloth to dab at the stain. Don’t rub vigorously, just gently dab at it until stain begins to lighten.
If the stain still won’t budge, mix together some vinegar and baking soda until it forms a paste, then generously apply it to the affected area. Leave it for 10-15 minutes, then remove the paste and wash the jacket in the same lukewarm water/detergent mixture.
For stubborn tree sap stains, rubbing alcohol may be your best bet. Dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and gently dab at the stained area. You should see a noticeable change in the color of the stain almost immediately. Once you are satisfied with the amount of tree sap that has been removed, use a damp cloth to gently wipe away any remaining alcohol.
With these tips, you should have no trouble getting tree sap stains out of your favorite jacket. Good luck!
