Despite its delicate appearance, guipure lace is surprisingly robust and resistant to dirt. That’s why tree sap can be such a problem – the sticky residue can cling to the fine fibers, and if left for too long, it can become impossible to remove.
For this step, you’ll need a soft-bristled brush and a wooden spatula. Lightly scrape away any excess sap, taking care not to damage the lace. Be sure to use a gentle brushing motion to avoid snagging the delicate fabric.
Mix warm water and a mild laundry detergent in a bucket. Then, submerge lace in the solution and let it soak for around 3-5 minutes. This will help to loosen sap residue and make it easier to remove.
Once the lace has soaked, take a soft-bristled brush and gently scrub away any remaining sap. Avoid using too much pressure, as this could damage or tear the fabric.
Once all the sap has been removed, make sure to rinse the lace well to remove any detergent residue. Then, lay it out flat on a towel to air dry.
