It’s unfortunate but true that tree sap stains can really wreak havoc on your outdoor grilles. If you are a fan of grilling during the summer months, you've likely come across this type of stain before. In order to get your grille back in tip-top shape, here's what you need to do:
Before beginning, make sure your work area is clean and free of debris. This will help ensure that the cleaning process is successful and that the grille is not further damaged. Put on protective gloves and be sure to wear them throughout the entire process. Make sure that both your skin and clothing are protected from any of the cleaning agents you will be using.
Choose a cleaning agent specifically designed to remove sap from grilles. Dish soap, WD-40, rubbing alcohol, citrus-based solvents and mineral spirits are all possible options. Apply the cleaning agent to stained area, making sure that it has ample time to interact with the stain. This can take anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours depending on the type and severity of the stain.
Once the cleaning agent has had ample time to work its magic, you can begin to scrub the stain away. A soft brush or sponge should do the job, as long as you are careful not to damage the grille. Begin by scrubbing lightly and then gradually increase the pressure as needed. Be sure to rinse off any residue after the stain has been removed.
Once stain has been completely removed, you can finish up by drying the grille off with a soft cloth. Consider waxing the grille for added protection and shine, as this will help to prevent future stains from occurring. Now your grille is ready to fire up again!
