Tree sap contains tannic acids and resins that can cause unsightly stains on clothing made from fabrics such as cotton and polyester. Fleece is a popular fabric for outdoor wear, but it can be particularly vulnerable to tree sap stains due to its delicate nature. The good news is that with a little patience and the right products, you can easily remove tree sap stains from your fleece.
The first step in removing tree sap stains is to freeze the stain. To do this, place an ice pack or cubes of ice inside a plastic bag and hold it against the stained area for 1-2 minutes. This will harden the resin so that it is easier to remove.
Next, apply rubbing alcohol directly to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. The alcohol will help to loosen the sap, making it easier to remove.
Using a soft bristled brush, gently scrub the stained area to remove the sap. Be sure to be gentle and not too abrasive, as fleece can be easily damaged. If the stain remains, proceed to the next step.
Create a detergent solution using 1 teaspoon of liquid dish detergent and 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Soak stained area in the solution for 15-30 minutes. Gently agitate the area every few minutes. After soaking, rinse the area with cold water.
If the stain still remains, repeat steps 2-4 until the stain is removed. Once stain is gone, allow the fleece to air dry.
