Tree sap can be tough to remove from any surface, but on a delicate fabric like cotton voile, it can be especially tricky. The key is to act quickly to eliminate the sap before it has a chance to set in. If you're trying to remove already-set sap, have no fear; there are still a few tricks that can help you out.
Before getting started, you'll need a few supplies. Here's what you'll need:
Using a dull knife or spoon, gently scrape away any excess sap. This will help prevent it from spreading further into the fabric.
Mix together a solution of liquid dish soap and white vinegar in equal parts. Then, soak the stained area for about 30 minutes. If necessary, use a soft bristled brush to work the solution into the fabric.
When the 30 minutes are up, rinse the soap and vinegar solution out of the cotton voile. Be sure to thoroughly rinse area to prevent any residue from being left behind.
To ensure the sap stain is completely gone, you'll need to heat set the fabric. Place a lint-free cloth over the stained area and iron for a few seconds. Keep an eye on fabric and make sure it doesn't scorch or burn. Once the fabric is dry, inspect it carefully to make sure the stain is gone.
Tree sap can be tricky to remove, but with a few simple steps and the right tools, it's easy to restore your cotton voile back to its original glory. If a few stubborn spots remain after the first attempt, don't panic; simply repeat process until the stain is gone.
