The first step to removing tree sap stains is to scrape off as much of the excess residue as possible. Be sure to use a blunt object such as a butter knife or plastic scraper to remove the sap, as metal objects can damage or rip the fabric. Once that is done, dab a bit of laundry detergent onto the spot, rub it into the fabric lightly and then rinse off with a damp cloth.
If the stain persists after treatment with detergent, you can use white vinegar as a natural cleaner. Simply moisten a white cloth with vinegar and dab the stained area. Allow vinegar to set for at least 15 minutes before washing. Alternatively, use an enzyme cleaner specifically for removing tree sap. Follow the directions on the bottle for best results.
After removing the sap, launder the seersucker material with cold water and a mild detergent. To avoid further staining, keep the fabric away from direct light when drying. If the stain remains, run the item through a second cycle.
Tree sap stains can be persistent, but with a bit of patience and the right supplies you can get them out of your seersucker cotton fabric in no time.
