Before you can begin cleaning the stained cotton item, you must make sure you have required supplies. The good news is that all the items you need can be found in your local grocery store:
Now that you have all the necessary supplies, it’s time to start removing the stain. Begin by taking a paper towel or soft cloth and using it to blot the stained area. The goal of this step is to saturate the sap with rubbing alcohol, so you should pour sufficient alcohol onto the cloth or paper towel and apply it directly to the stain. Work from the outside of stain towards the center to avoid spreading it.
Once the sap has been saturated with rubbing alcohol, you can use the old toothbrush to gently scrub away at the stain. Start with small, gentle circles and work towards larger ones. This is often a multi-step process, so you may have to apply more rubbing alcohol while scrubbing.
Once all of the sap has been scrubbed away, create a mixture of ½ cup of white vinegar and one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Work the mixture into the stained area with your fingers and then rinse the garment with cold water. You should notice that sap stain has been removed.
The last step is to let the garment air dry completely. If the stain is still visible once the garment is dry, repeat steps two through four until it is completely removed.
Tree sap stains can be tricky to remove, but with help of this guide, you can successfully clean them off your cotton garments. Be sure to gather necessary supplies before you start, and don’t forget to let item air dry when you are finished.
