Step 1: Freeze the Stain

The first step to removing the tree sap stain is to freeze the affected area. Fill an ice cube tray with water and place it in the freezer for about an hour. Once the cubes are frozen, take one out and wrap it in a cloth or paper towel. Then, press the wrapped ice cube onto the stained area of the chiffon georgette fabric for about 10 minutes. This will help make the sap solidify, making it easier to scrape off.

Step 2: Scrape the Stain

After allowing ice cube to sit on the stained area for 10 minutes, take a plastic knife or credit card and use it to scrape off the solidified sap. Be sure not to dig too deep into the fabric as this could cause damage. You may need to repeat this process several times to completely remove stain.

Step 3: Apply a Cleaning Solution

Once you’ve removed as much of the sap as you can with the plastic knife, then it’s time to apply a cleaning solution. Mix together 1 part dish soap with 4 parts cold water. Dip a clean cloth into the mixture, then gently dab at stained area. Avoid rubbing the area as this may cause the stain to spread.

Step 4: Launder the Item

Finally, launder the item according to the care label instructions. Be sure to use a mild detergent and cold water setting to avoid damaging the fabric. Always air dry your chiffon georgette clothing. If necessary, you can also spot-clean any remaining sap stains before drying.

Additional Tips

  • If the sap has been on the fabric for a while, you may need to use a stronger cleaning solution such as rubbing alcohol or vodka. Test the solution on a hidden area before applying it to the stain.
  • Reapply the ice cubes if the sap has become sticky again before scraping it off.
  • Be aware that some tree sap stains may be permanent, depending on the severity and age of stain.
