Sap-Free Carrickmacross Lace: How to Clean Tree Sap Stains Effortlessly

Carrickmacross lace is a centuries-old Irish craft involving hand-stitching intricate designs onto netting. However, if you happen to get tree sap on your lace fabric, it can be difficult to remove. Have no fear! Here’s a guide to easily and quickly get rid of sap stains from Carrickmacross lace.

Step 1: Freeze Sap Stain

Begin by rubbing ice cubes or an ice pack directly onto the sap stain. This will harden the sap and make it easier to scrape off. Let this sit for about 5 minutes, or until the sap has hardened completely.

Step 2: Scrape Off Sap

Using a plastic utensil—such as a butter knife, spoon, or credit card—gently scrape the sap off the lace. Do not use metal, as this could damage the fabric and leave small scratches.

Step 3: Spot Clean or Soak in Water

If you are able to get most of the sap off fabric, you should be able to spot clean the remaining residue. Saturate a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and dab the affected area to remove any sap residue. If the stain is more resistant, you may need to soak the lace in lukewarm water.

Step 4: Pre-Treat with a Stain Remover
