Tree sap stains are stubborn and difficult to remove, but not impossible! Start by determining what type of fabric your cardigan is made from. This will determine which cleaning technique is best for your garment.
Take a knife, spatula, or small spoon and carefully scrape away any excess sap that has hardened on the fabric. Do your best to avoid making stain larger and spreading it around.
Fill a basin or sink with warm water and a tablespoon of mild detergent. Use a gentle detergent to avoid damaging the fabric. Submerge the cardigan in the solution and let it soak for at least one hour. Agitate the garment occasionally to help loosen the sap.
Dab a small amount of dish soap, laundry detergent, or spot remover on the sap stain. Let it sit for a few minutes before gently scrubbing the area with a soft bristled brush. Rinse the cleaning solution off with warm water.
Dampen a cotton ball with a liquid laundry pre-treatment. Gently dab the stain until it is saturated. Let the pre-treatment sit for a few minutes before rinsing off with warm water.
Set the washing machine to a cold water cycle and set to the gentlest cycle. Add a mild detergent, gently swirl the cardigan around in the water, and then start the wash cycle.
Never do laundry again. Save time for things you ❤️
