First things first: act fast! Many tree sap stains can be removed if treated shortly after you spot them. Use a heavy-duty, enzyme-based laundry detergent, such as Tide or Persil, and treat the stain as soon as possible.
Once you have the right kind of laundry detergent, try pre-treating the area with a liquid stain stick. Apply the stain stick directly to the stained area, and use your fingers to rub it into the fabric. Let it sit for five to 10 minutes before throwing the capris in the washing machine.
Put the capris in the washing machine, along with a full load of laundry using the hot water setting. Hot water helps break down the oily residue of tree sap, which makes it easier to get rid of. You can also add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the wash cycle, as it is effective at removing stubborn stains.
Finally, air-dry the capris rather than using the dryer. The heat of the dryer can set the stain, making it harder to remove. After air-drying, inspect the area to make sure stain has been completely removed. If the stain is still visible, repeat the pre-treating, washing and air-drying steps until it is gone.
Having tree sap stains on your capris doesn't have to mean the end of their life. By taking the proper steps and using the right cleaning materials, you can easily get rid of tree sap stains with minimal effort.
