What You’ll Need

  • A clean white cloth
  • Paper towels or a few layers of clean newspaper
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • A mild liquid laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Olive oil
  • A stain remover specifically designed to remove sap (optional)

Step-by-Step Directions

  1. Cover stained area of fabric with paper towels or newspaper.
  2. Pour a generous amount of rubbing alcohol onto your clean white cloth, then gently dab at the stain.
  3. Mix a solution of detergent, vinegar and water, and apply it to the stained area. Let it sit for 15 minutes before scrubbing it in using a toothbrush and cold water.
  4. If the stain persists, combine a small amount each of olive oil and dish soap, then scrub it into the stain. Rinse it with cold water.
  5. Let the item air dry, then inspect the stain. If it's still there, try a commercial stain remover designed to remove tree sap.

Tips & Tricks

  • If you don't have rubbing alcohol, you can also try using nail polish remover on the stain.
  • Don't use hot water when trying to remove a tree sap stain, as this will cause it to set.
  • Test any cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the garment first to ensure it won't cause discoloration or damage.
  • Follow care instructions on clothing tag to determine if it can be washed in a machine or if it needs to be hand-washed.
