Tree sap stains can be daunting to remove from fabric, and many of us may have a garment destroyed by these seemingly indestructible stains. Luckily there are ways to remove tree sap while preserving the beauty of your garment. The most important part of removing any stain is getting to it quickly. The longer the sap has to set in the fabric, the harder it will be to remove. Follow these steps as soon as you notice the tree sap stain:
- First, dry scrape the sap with a spoon or other flat object.
- Then, lay garment onto a towel.
- Use a mixture of equal parts rubbing alcohol and warm water and soak a cloth in the mixture.
- Use cloth to dab at the stain from outside edges towards the center.
- After you’ve removed as much sap as possible, pre-treat the area with a laundry detergent or fabric cleaning solution.
- Finally, launder the garment as you normally would.
Remember that fabric type plays an important role in cleaning the stains. Different fabrics necessitate different cleaning products, so read the care instructions on label before pre-treating the area. If you don’t feel comfortable cleaning the stain yourself, bring it to a professional dry cleaner to get the job done right. Don’t forget to inform the dry cleaners that there’s a sap stain so they can take the necessary precautions.
