Angora is a beautiful and luxurious fabric, but its soft texture makes it susceptible to staining – particularly when it comes to tree sap. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps you can take to get rid of any unwanted tree sap stains on your Angora garments.
Using a blunt knife, carefully scrape away any excess tree sap so that the stained area is clear. Be careful not to press too hard on the fabric – doing so may cause more damage and make stain worse.
Once you have scraped away any excess sap, mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl. Use a clean cloth or sponge to dab the affected area, soaking it with solution and allowing it to sit for several minutes. Once fabric has soaked up the solution, rinse it with cold water and let it air dry.
After the fabric has dried, pretreat the area with a mild detergent. Mix a tablespoon of the detergent with two cups of warm water, then apply the solution directly to the stained area with a soft cloth or sponge. Allow the detergent solution to sit for several minutes before rinsing it with cold water.
If the stain persists after the detergent treatment, try applying a cleaning solvent such as rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover to the affected area. Apply the solvent and allow it to soak in for several minutes before rinsing with cold water and letting it air dry.
If the stain is still visible after the cleaning solvent treatment, repeat steps two through four to ensure all of the tree sap is removed. If after multiple attempts the stain is still visible, it’s best to take the garment to a professional dry cleaner.
