Step 1: Scoop Out the Sap

The first step in removing tree sap is to scoop it out with a spoon or dull knife. Take caution when doing this, as you don’t want to damage fabric or make stain worse. Use a gentle motion as you scoop out sap and try to get as much of it as possible without making too much of a mess.

Step 2: Spot Clean the Stained Area

Once you have scooped out the sap, you can start spot cleaning the stained area. Start by blotting the stain with a clean cloth soaked in warm water. This will help lift some of the sap off fabric. Next, mix a few drops of mild laundry detergent with a cup of warm water and dab at stain with a cloth soaked in the solution. If the sap has been on the fabric for more than 24 hours, you can add a tablespoon of white vinegar to the solution.

Step 3: Soak the Stained Area

If the stain is still present after spot cleaning, you can try soaking it in a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar. Make sure you don’t scrub or rub the fabric while it is soaking. Let it sit in solution for up to 30 minutes and then blot the area with a cloth soaked in clean water to rinse off the vinegar.

Step 4: Wash the Garment

After you have finished cleaning the stained area, put the garment in the washing machine and wash it according to the care instructions. Make sure you use a mild detergent and avoid using hot water. When the garment is finished washing, hang it to dry or lay it flat on a towel. Do not put it in the dryer until you are sure that the stain has been removed.
