The first step when faced with a toothpaste stain is to rinse it out immediately. Fill a bowl with cold water and soak the stained area for a few minutes. Then rinse the shirt under cold running water. This will help to remove most of the toothpaste from the fabric.
After rinsing, apply a small amount of detergent or liquid soap onto the stained area. Rub detergent or soap gently into the fabric with your fingers. Then allow the soap mixture to sit on the stain for around 10 minutes.
If the stain still remains after using detergent or soap, you will need to use a stain remover. There are a variety of stain removers on market specifically designed for removing toothpaste stains. Apply the stain remover following the directions on the package. Then launder the garment as usual.
If the stain is still visible after laundering, try soaking the stained area in a solution of one part chlorine bleach and five parts water before laundering again. Be sure to test the solution on an inconspicuous area of the garment first to make sure it does not damage fabric.
