Toothpaste can unintentionally get on your silk shantung fabric, leaving an unsightly stain. Thankfully, with a few simple steps and materials you likely have around the house, you can take care of the stain and have your fabric looking as good as new.

First, blot the stain immediately with a clean cloth to remove as much of the toothpaste as possible. Do not rub the stain, as this may push the toothpaste further into the fabric fibers. Only press the cloth gently against the stain and remove any excess toothpaste that is visible.
Mix one teaspoon of clear detergent with two cups of cold water in a bowl. Dip cloth into the mixture and then apply it to the stain. Use a blotting motion, rather than rubbing, to lift the stain.
Rinse with cold water immediately after pre-treating. This will help to rinse away any remaining toothpaste residue.
If there is still some of the toothpaste stain remaining, then apply a small amount of liquid detergent directly onto the affected area, working the detergent into fabric. Allow the detergent to sit for several minutes, then rinse with cold water.
Lastly, you can put your item of clothing into washing machine as normal. Be sure to use a gentle cycle with cold water. To prevent the stain from setting permanently, do not tumble dry the item, instead lay it flat or hang it up to air dry.
