Start by gently dabbing stained area with dry-cleaning solvent or a mild detergent. Work the liquid into the stain with a clean cloth. Then, rinse the cloth with cold water and blot the area until it is damp.
If spot is still visible after Step 1, apply a special spotting product specifically designed for treating silk. Follow the instructions carefully to ensure that you don't damage the fabric. Allow the spot remover to sit for a few minutes, then blot with a damp cloth and rinse with cold water.
Gently dab the stain with a solution of equal parts ammonia or white vinegar and cold water. Again, keep the fabric damp and only use ammonia on silk, not any other fabrics. Rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary.
After you've tried one of the above methods and the stain is still visible, try using an iron. Place a damp cloth over area and use a warm iron to press cloth onto the stain. Be careful not to leave the iron on for too long, as this could cause more damage to fabric.
If all of the above steps have failed, it might be time to call in a professional cleaner. Make sure to tell them that the fabric is silk, so they can use the appropriate cleaning products.
