If you’re like many people, your robe is one of the most versatile pieces of clothing in your wardrobe. From relaxing around the house to lounging in front of a crackling fire on a chilly night, it’s an item that has multiple uses. The longer you let a toothpaste stain set, the tougher it will be to get out. So if you just spotted a stain, act fast. Start by blotting the area with a sponge, warm water and a mild detergent. Don't rub the fabric, as this will only work the stain deeper into the fabric. Rinse with cold water and repeat as necessary until the stain is gone.
If stain isn't coming out with basic cleaning, you may need to pre-treat it. There are a few different ways to do this:
Once you've pre-treated the stain, it's time to do a wash. As always, read the care instructions on the robe's tag first. If using a machine, select the gentle cycle and choose a cold water temperature. If washing by hand, use lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Likewise, if you're going to put your robe in the dryer, check the tag first. High heat can set the stain, so air dry if possible.
If stain persists after washing, you can repeat the above steps. Keep going until the stain is completely removed. And remember, always test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric first to make sure it won't cause discoloration.
