1. Clean Fresh Stains Right Away

The longer you let a toothpaste stain set, the tougher it will be to get out. So if you just spotted a stain, act fast. Start by blotting the area with a sponge, warm water and a mild detergent. Don't rub the fabric, as this will only work the stain deeper into the fabric. Rinse with cold water and repeat as necessary until the stain is gone.

2. Pre-Treat Older or Set-In Stains

If stain isn't coming out with basic cleaning, you may need to pre-treat it. There are a few different ways to do this:

  • Mix a teaspoon of liquid detergent with two cups of warm water, and mix until it forms a creamy paste. Apply this paste directly to the stain, and allow it to sit for 30 minutes before washing.
  • Mix equal parts white vinegar and water and apply it to the stain with a cotton ball. Wait 15 minutes before washing.
  • Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply it directly to the stain. Allow it to sit for an hour before washing.

3. Wash the Robe

Once you've pre-treated the stain, it's time to do a wash. As always, read the care instructions on the robe's tag first. If using a machine, select the gentle cycle and choose a cold water temperature. If washing by hand, use lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Likewise, if you're going to put your robe in the dryer, check the tag first. High heat can set the stain, so air dry if possible.

4. Repeat as Needed

If stain persists after washing, you can repeat the above steps. Keep going until the stain is completely removed. And remember, always test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric first to make sure it won't cause discoloration.
