To get started, purchase a stain removing product that is specifically formulated for removing stains from fabrics. This could be a laundry detergent that has stain removing agents in it, or a fabric cleaner that has special enzymes that will help break down the toothpaste and lift stain away.
Start by dampening the fabric with lukewarm water, being careful not to saturate it too much. This will help activate the stain removing solution and allow it to penetrate deeper. Apply the solution directly onto the stained area and gently rub it in using a soft-bristled brush, or a cloth. Allow it to sit for a few minutes to give it time to work on the stain, then rinse off with lukewarm water.
If the stain persists, you can try repeating this process a few times. If the stain still won't come out, it may be time to consider other methods.
Baking soda and vinegar are two of the most common and effective homemade stain removers. Combining them makes a potent stain removing solution that can be used to tackle tough toothpaste stains.
Start by mixing equal parts baking soda and white vinegar into a bowl. Stir the mixture until it forms a paste-like consistency. Apply the paste directly onto the stained area and let it sit for at least 10 minutes.
After the paste has had time to work on the stain, use a soft bristled brush to gently scrub area in a circular motion. If needed, dilute the paste with a bit of lukewarm water to help reduce its strength. Rinse off the remaining paste with warm water and pat dry with a cloth.
Bleach is another great option for removing stubborn toothpaste stains. It should only be used on light colored jerseys, as it can discolor dark fabrics. Start by diluting a small amount of bleach with lukewarm water and stir to combine. Apply the mixture directly onto the stained area and let it sit for at least five minutes.
After allotted time has passed, use a soft bristled brush to gently scrub the fabric in a circular motion. Rinse off remaining bleach with lukewarm water and pat dry with a cloth. To help prevent the fabric from fading, you should consider applying a fabric protector after all of the stain is gone.
Toothpaste stains can be difficult to remove, but with the right products and techniques, they can be eliminated quickly and easily. All of the methods above are effective for removing even tough toothpaste stains from jerseys. Whichever method you choose to use, be sure to keep in mind that different fabrics may react differently, so proceed with caution and test any product or method on a hidden area first.
