Whether your canvas item is clothing, a tote bag, or something else, you can easily get rid of toothpaste stains with the following steps:

  • Gently scrape off as much of the toothpaste as possible.
  • Mix warm water with a few drops of mild soap. Make sure the soap is designed for use on fabrics.
  • Dampen a soft cloth or sponge and dip it in the mixture. Gently scrub stain, but do not rub too hard.
  • Rinse the affected area with warm water.
  • Repeat this process until the stain is gone.
  • Once the stain is gone, hang the canvas item up to air dry.

The process may take multiple attempts to completely remove the toothpaste stain. If you find that the stain still remains after a few tries, you should try spot cleaning with oxygen bleach. To do this, mix oxygen bleach with lukewarm water. Then, dip a sponge into it and lightly dab the stain. Allow the bleach to sit for about 10 minutes, then rinse the area with warm water. Be sure to launder the item afterward according to the garment’s washing instructions.

Removing toothpaste stains from cotton canvas does not have to be a difficult task. Follow these simple steps and you will get rid of those unwanted marks in no time!
