Toothpaste can be a tricky substance to remove from clothing and bed linen, especially when it comes to cotton. To ensure that your toothpaste-stained cotton fabric looks as good as new, you’ll need to know right way to approach the cleaning process.
What You’ll Need
- Baking soda
- Hydrogen peroxide
- White vinegar
- Rubbing alcohol
- Toothpaste stain remover (optional)
- Cotton cloth
- Towel
- Washing machine
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Soak the stained item in a mixture of one part hydrogen peroxide and one part warm water for up to an hour.
- Rinse the fabric with cold water.
- Make a paste using baking soda and a few drops of white vinegar. Rub the paste onto the stained area and let sit for 15 minutes.
- Rinse off the paste with cold water.
- If the stain still remains, mix rubbing alcohol and toothpaste in equal parts and rub mixture directly into the stain.
- Let fabric air dry for a few hours.
- Once the fabric has completely dried, machine wash item as usual.
Additional Tips
- For tough stains, spray the area with store-bought toothpaste stain remover before beginning the cleaning process.
- If possible, treat the stain immediately after it occurs.
- Do not put stained fabric in the dryer until the stain is fully removed; otherwise it will become more difficult to remove.
