Using a clean cloth or paper towel, start by gently blotting the toothpaste stain. Do not rub the cloth in circles, but dab it in one direction. This will help reduce spread of the stain.
Determine what material your ball gown is made out of so that you can choose a cleaning solution that won't damage the fabric. Different materials will require different cleaning agents.
Mix together an appropriate cleaning solution for material of your ball gown using three parts warm water and one part mild detergent. Additionally, if your ball gown's material is color-safe, use white vinegar instead of detergent for better stain removal.
Before cleaning the stain, make sure you pre-treat the area to loosen up the stain. Dip a cloth into the cleaning solution prepared earlier and press the fabric onto the stained part. This will help loosen up the stain.
Once the stain has been loosened up, you can start wiping it away with a clean cloth. Be sure to apply light pressure, and wipe away toothpaste in one direction.
To ensure that cleaning solution has been totally removed, rinse the area with cold water. You can do this by dipping a cloth in cold water and dabbing the area to remove any residue left behind.
Once area has been rinsed and cleaned, dry it immediately using a clean cloth or paper towel. Do not leave the area damp as this can cause further discoloration.
