Toothpaste contains ingredients such as calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate that may leave white or discolored stains on clothing materials. Fortunately, there are some easy ways to remove such stains from pieces of American Eagle apparel. Here is a step-by-step guide for cleaning these stains:
Using a white cloth or paper towel, gently blot the stained area. Do not rub or scrub the stain, as it will only spread it further into the fabric. Repeat this process several times, until there is no transfer of the stain onto the cloth.
Mix a solution of one tablespoon of mild laundry detergent and two cups of warm water. Lightly dampen the stained area with the solution. Let the detergent sit on the fabric for a few minutes.
Rinse the garment with cool water. If the stained area remains, repeat process. You may need to use a soft brush or sponge to help lift off the stain.
Once the stain has been removed, launder your item of clothing as usual. Be sure to check the stained area before putting the garment in the dryer, to make sure the stain is completely gone.
