Removing tomato stains from wool is an arduous task but certainly doable. To get started, it is best to act as soon as you notice stain. If the stain has had some time to set in it will be more difficult to remove.
The first step is to blot up as much of the tomato sauce as you can before it has a chance to set. Use a paper towel or soft cloth to blot at the stain. Be sure to not scrub the stain as this could cause it to spread.
Once you have blotted up as much of the sauce as possible, you can pre-treat the stain with a solution of cold water and liquid detergent. Soak a cloth in the mixture and dab at stain until the fabric is thoroughly saturated. Let it sit for about 15 minutes.
Next, rinse the stained area with cold water. Blot the area with a dry cloth or towel to remove any excess liquid. If stain is still visible, repeat the steps above until the stain is removed.
If the stain is still visible after rinsing, mix together a solution of white vinegar and cold water. Soak the stained area with the vinegar solution and let it sit for 15 minutes. Next, take a soft toothbrush and gently scrub the vinegar into the fabric. Finally, rinse the area with cold water and let it air dry.
If the stain is still visible after the last step, use rubbing alcohol as a final attempt to remove the stain. Soak a cotton ball or soft cloth in rubbing alcohol and blot the area. Then rinse the area with cold water and let it air dry.
With time and patience, you can successfully remove tomato stains from wool. The process may be arduous but if you follow each step correctly you will be able to get those pesky tomato stains out of your wool items.
