As soon as you notice the tomato stain, rinse it with cold water to help prevent the stain from setting into the fabric. If stain is still wet, blot the area gently with a paper towel or cloth to remove excess liquid. Do not rub the stain as this may cause it to spread further.
Using a mild detergent or liquid soap, pretreat the stained area by rubbing in a circular motion with your fingertips. If the stain is especially stubborn, use a soft-bristled brush to help remove stain.
Once stain has been pretreated, place the item in a sink or bowl filled with cold water and one to two tablespoons of white vinegar. Allow item to soak for at least 15 minutes before rinsing.
When ready, remove the item from the vinegar water and place it in the washing machine. Wash it as normal according to the fabric's instructions. In most cases, you should be able to wash the item on normal cycle.
Before drying item, check the stained area to make sure all of the stain has been removed. If some of the stain is still visible, repeat steps two through four until the stain is gone. After that, you're all set!
