Due to its red color and acidic nature, tomato stains can be quite tough to remove off of delicate fabrics such as silk and cotton. If left untreated, they can leave a permanent mark on your favorite outfit! If you find yourself stuck with a stubborn tomato stain, here are some helpful tips to get rid of it:

  • If stain is fresh and still wet, start by soaking the fabric in cold water for a few minutes. This will help lift out some of the stain itself.
  • Mixing white vinegar with a liquid detergent, at a ratio of 1:2 respectively, can help loosen and break down the stain further. Once done, rinse off the stain and check for results. The same procedure can also be followed with rubbing alcohol instead of white vinegar.
  • If you have a dry cleaning service near you, then this is probably the safest route to take. Ask them to clean the stain using a gentle turpentine-based solvent.
  • Club soda can also be used to pre-treat the stain and help in lifting it out. Lightly dab a cloth soaked in club soda onto the stained area, then simply rinse off any residue.

By following these simple steps, you should be able to completely remove tomato stains from your traditional outfit!
