If the stain is still wet, take a clean cloth and blot up as much of the liquid as possible. Do not rub, as this will cause the stain to spread more and set deeper into the fabric.
Mix a drop of liquid detergent with a cup of lukewarm water and stir. Dip a toothbrush or soft scrub brush into the solution and lightly work it into the stained area. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse the garment with lukewarm water.
Mix the following ingredients in a bowl: 2 tablespoons liquid dish soap, 2 tablespoons white vinegar, and 2 tablespoons rubbing alcohol. Dip a cloth or cotton swab into mixture and dab it onto the stained area. You may need to repeat this several times if the stain is particularly deep. Rinse the fabric thoroughly with lukewarm water.
Once stain is gone, place stained fabric in the washing machine with cold water and a gentle laundry detergent. Allow the machine to run its full cycle, then hang the garment to dry.
If stain is still visible after washing, apply another round of pre-treatment and spot cleaning. Then wash fabric in cold water again.
With a few simple steps and some elbow grease, tomato stains can be easily removed from most fabrics. Keep a few key tips in mind and you’ll have your favorite tie looking good as new in no time!
