Identify the Stain Type
Before you attempt to clean the tomato stain, it’s important to identify whether it is an oil-based or water-based stain. Oil-based stains are usually darker in color and can be tougher to remove. Water-based stains tend to be lighter in color and often come from fruit juices, soft drinks, and other liquids.
Clean Mild Stains with Liquid Detergent and Water
Mild tomato stains that are water-based are relatively easy to remove by simply mixing liquid detergent with warm water and dabbing the mixture onto stained area. Repeat this several times until the stain starts to fade.
Use Vinegar for Stubborn Stains
If you’re struggling to remove stubborn stains, vinegar can be very effective. Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a bowl and dip a soft cloth into the mixture. Gently scrub the stained area and rinse with clean water afterwards. This should remove most tomato stains.
Sanitize After Cleaning
After you have removed the stain, you may want to sanitize the surrounding area. This will help ensure that the area remains clean and free from bacteria and other contaminants. Let the area air-dry and repeat process as needed.
