Tomatoes are a staple in many of our favorite dishes, but they can also be a nightmare when they land on our clothing. Tomato stains are common on clothes in contact with sauces, salsas, and other tomato-based foods. Luckily, with just three simple steps, you can restore your shorts to their pre-tomato-stain glory in no time.

1. Blot With a Paper Towel

The first step in removing a tomato stain is to gently blot the spot with a paper towel or soft cloth. This will help to absorb some of excess tomato liquid and prevent stain from setting into the fabric.

2. Create a Mixture

Next, create a mixture to fight the stain by combining two tablespoons of dish soap with one quart of hot water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and lightly dab the stained area.

3. Rinse and Repeat

Finally, rinse the shorts with cold water. You may need to repeat steps two and three several times if stain is particularly stubborn. Once the stain has been removed, launder the shorts according to the care instructions on label.

With these three simple steps, you can easily remove tomato stains from shorts. Give it a try the next time you have an unexpected tomato encounter!
