Tomato stains can happen in the blink of an eye, leaving you with a seemingly impossible task in removing stains without damaging your clothing. Fortunately, some quick action and prevention can help eliminate the stain and save your shirt! Here’s what you need to do:
As soon as you realize you’ve got a tomato stain on your shirt, it’s critical to act quickly and blot away the stain before it sets in. Take a clean cloth and blot the stained area until all the excess liquid is gone. This will help prevent the stain from soaking into the fibers of the fabric.
Once you’ve blotted away excess liquid, fill a container with cold water and soak the stained area for about 30 minutes. This will help loosen the particles and make it easier to remove the stain.
Once the shirt has been soaked in cold water, apply a stain removing agent such as dishwashing liquid, rubbing alcohol, white vinegar, laundry detergent, borax, washing soda, baking soda, cornstarch, or hydrogen peroxide. Make sure to follow the instructions on the packaging and only use a small amount. Allow the solution to sit on the stain for at least five minutes before rinsing with cold water.
Once the stain has been treated, launder shirt as normal. Make sure to check the stained area before placing shirt in the dryer. If the stain is still visible, repeat the process until it’s gone.
Once stain is completely gone, dry the shirt either in the dryer or hang it up to air dry. Do not place the shirt in the dryer if stain is still visible as the heat from the dryer will set stain into the fabric.
By following these simple steps, you can easily and effectively remove tomato stains from your shirts. Good luck!
