The first step to cleaning tomato stains from your sarong is to blot up the excess tomato juice or puree. Grab some paper towels or cotton cloths, and press firmly on stain without scrubbing. This will absorb as much of liquid as possible without pushing the stain deeper into fabric.
Once you’ve blotted up the extra liquid, mix up a solution of 1 part laundry detergent and 1 part water. Use an old toothbrush to apply the solution liberally to the affected area, gently working it into the stain. Let the solution sit for 15 minutes before moving onto the next step.
Fill a sink with cold water and submerge the sarong. Gently rub the stained area in a circular motion with a mild soap, such as baby shampoo. Then rinse the area thoroughly with cool water, being careful to check that all the detergent has been removed.
Once you’ve finished washing, lay the sarong flat on a clean towel and roll it up carefully. The towel will absorb any excess moisture from the fabric. Then hang the sarong outside or in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight to air dry.
