Accidental spills can be tricky, especially if tomatoes have made their way onto one of your pillows. Tomato stains, unfortunately, are notorious for being difficult to get rid of. But don’t worry—there are a few simple steps you can take to make sure the stain comes out smoothly and leaves your pillow looking clean and brand new again.

Step 1: Blot the Stain

The first thing to do when dealing with any tough stain is to put a paper towel or cloth over it and press down gently. Doing this will help remove excess moisture and keep the tomato sauce from seeping any deeper into the pillow material. You can also use a spoon to gently scoop out any chunks of tomato.

Step 2: Apply a Detergent-Lemon Solution

Mix together a solution of 2 tablespoons of detergent and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Use a clean cloth or sponge to apply the mixture directly to the stained area. Gently scrub the stain in a circular motion and let the solution sit for 10-15 minutes. Then, rinse with cold water. Remember to always check that the fabric is colorfast before using any cleaning liquids on it.

Step 3: Air Dry

Once you’ve rinsed area and removed the stain, use a clean cloth to dab the pillow and remove any excess liquid. Hang the pillow up to air dry and avoid using a tumble dryer as this may set stain into the fabric.

Conclusion

Tomato stains may be daunting but with the right approach, you’ll quickly be able to get rid of them and restore your pillow back to its original condition. Even the most stubborn stains can be tackled with a bit of time and effort, so don’t be afraid to give it a try!
