Step One: Blotting

The first step for removing tomato stains from your pencil skirt is to blot the stain with a clean cloth or rag. Be sure not to rub the stain — this will only cause it to spread. Gently dab at the stain until it has been absorbed into the cloth.

Step Two: Pre-Treat the Stain

Next, pre-treat the stain with an enzyme-based stain remover. Place the stain remover directly on the stain and allow it to sit for 15 to 20 minutes before blotting it up with a damp cloth.

Step Three: Launder

After pre-treating the stain, you can now proceed to launder the item as normal. Be sure to check the care tag of your garment before laundering. It may be best to use a gentle cycle and a mild detergent in cold water.

Step Four: Air Dry

Once the garment has been washed, it's important to let it air dry. Heat of any kind (from a tumble dryer or iron) can cause the stain to set and make it much harder to remove.
