Removing Fresh Tomato Stains

If the stain is still fresh, start by blotting the spot with a paper towel or clean cloth to remove as much of the liquid as possible. Avoid rubbing the tomato as this will just push it further into the fabric fibers.

Next, you will need to create a mixture of one tablespoon of dish soap and one cup of warm water. Dip a soft cloth into solution and then use it to blot (not rub) the stain. If necessary, dab a little bit of the solution onto the stain directly. Finally, rinse the area with cold water and let air dry.

Treating Older Tomato Stains

Bringing older tomato stains out of fabrics can be a bit more difficult. Start by dabbing the stain with a cloth and rubbing alcohol or white vinegar. Try to lift stain out of the fabric fibers instead of pushing it deeper in.

If the previous steps don't work, mix two cups of cool water and one teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent. Dip a white cloth into the mixture and gently dab at the stain. Be sure not to scrub too hard as this could bleach or damage the fabric. Next, rinse area with cold water and let air dry.

Additional Tips

  • When attempting to remove tomato stains, always test cleaning solution on a small and inconspicuous part of fabric first.
  • Use a paper towel or clean cloth when blotting tomato stains on pajamas or other clothing. This will help to avoid pushing the stain deeper into fabric.
  • For extra stubborn tomato stains, you may need to repeat the cleaning processes several times.
  • Always read and follow the washing instructions for your pajamas before attempting to clean any type of stain.
