Step 1: Act Quickly

As soon as you notice a tomato stain, act quickly to stop it from setting in. The longer stain has to settle into the fabric, harder it will be to remove.

Step 2: Blot With a Clean Towel or Paper Towel

Be sure to use a paper towel or a clean cloth and not a towel that already contains other detergent residues. Blot the tomato stain with a clean towel or paper towel to absorb the excess liquid.

Step 3: Pre-Treat with Cold Water

Rinse stained area with cold water, using a fresh clean cloth. This will help loosen the stain, making it easier to remove.

Step 4: Make a Cleaning Solution

Mix together a tablespoon of liquid dish soap, a tablespoon of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water in a bowl or sink. Soak the stained area in the solution for 30 minutes.

Step 5: Scrub Gently but Thoroughly

After soaking, take a clean soft cloth and gently scrub at the tomato stain. Be careful not to rub too hard, as this could damage the material.

Step 6: Rinse with Cold Water

Rinse the stained area with cold water to remove the cleaning solution and any remaining tomato stain residue.

Step 7: Wash in the Washing Machine

Finally, wash the overalls in the washing machine according to the care instructions. Use a mild detergent and warm or cold water.
