Step 1: Blot and Scrape

The first step is to grab a paper towel and blot the affected area. This will help to absorb the tomato juice and keep it from spreading. Then, take a spoon or butter knife and scrape away any remaining chunks of tomato. Be sure to do this gently, as you don’t want to damage the fabric of your New Balance shoes.

Step 2: Create a Cleaning Solution

After you have blotted and scraped away the tomato, it’s time to create a cleaning solution. Start by mixing one teaspoon of liquid detergent and one cup of warm water in a bowl. When solution is fully mixed, dip a cloth into it and wring it out. Then, apply damp cloth to the affected area of the shoe and let it sit for five minutes.

Step 3: Rinse and Repeat

After letting the solution sit, rinse off the New Balance shoe with cold water. Once the shoe is clean, use a dry cloth and press firmly on the area. This will help to draw out any remaining moisture. Repeat steps two and three if needed, until the tomato stain is completely gone.

Step 4: Dry and Deodorize

Once the tomato stain is removed, it’s important to make sure the shoe is completely dry. Place the shoe in a sunny spot outside, or use a blow dryer set to low heat. Once the shoe is dry, sprinkle some baking soda over it to help deodorize it. Leave baking soda to sit for 15 minutes before brushing off, then the shoe should be good as new!
