The most important step in treating a tomato stain is to act quickly and blot stain before it has a chance to dry and set. Use a paper towel or a clean cloth to absorb as much of liquid as you can. It’s also helpful to place a thick layer of paper towels or an absorbent cloth underneath the denim to help absorb any excess liquid.
Once you have blotted the stain, it’s time to pre-treat it with a stain remover spray or laundry detergent. If you don’t have any special stain remover spray, you can also use a mild laundry detergent with a small amount of water. Spray the stained area generously and wait a few minutes for the liquid to soak into the fabric.
Once the stain has been pre-treated, it’s time to pop your garment in the washing machine. Be sure to check the label on your denim to make sure that it is safe to be washed in the machine. When washing your denim, use a cold water setting and a mild detergent. Avoid using hot water as this can cause the stain to set in even more.
Once the denim has gone through a full wash cycle, it’s time to take it out of the machine and let it air dry. Never put your denim in the dryer as the heat from the machine can cause the stain to set in permanently. To ensure your denim is completely dry, hang it up outside in sun or in a well-ventilated area.
