The very first thing to do is rinse out stain as soon as it happens. Blot the area with cold water and try to move the stain away from the fabric. Be sure to act quickly, as this method is more effective when the tomato sauce is still fresh.
Once you've blotted away the worst of the stain, apply some detergent onto the affected area. Gently rub a mild laundry detergent into the fabric, working it upwards from the stain. Let the detergent sit for about 5 minutes before moving on to Step 3.
Put garment in a basin of warm water and let it soak for 10 to 15 minutes. Use your hands to gently massage the fabric while it soaks. This will help loosen the stain, making it easier to remove. After that, machine wash the garment strictly according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Once the garment has been through the washer, check to see if the stain is still there. If it is, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the stain is completely gone.
Once you're satisfied with results, air dry your garment. Avoid using a dryer, as high temperatures can actually make the stain set into the fabric even further.
Now it's time for a job well done! Give yourself a pat on the back for removing that tomato stain from your precious Cornelli lace.
