Step 1: Gently Remove Excess Sauce
The first step is to remove any excess sauce that has already dried on the fabric. Use a spoon or butter knife to gently scrape away as much of the tomato sauce as possible. Try not to rub too hard into the fabric, since this could damage the lace.
Step 2: Blot with a Damp Cloth
Once you have removed as much of the sauce as you can, you can use a damp cloth to gently blot the stain. Make sure it’s only damp - don’t use an overly wet cloth as this could cause the lace to shrink and damage it.
Step 3: Pre-Treat with Stain Remover
The next step is to pre-treat the stain. You can use a commercial stain remover product, like OxiClean, or another similar product. Follow the directions on the packaging, but generally this involves making a mixture of stain remover with equal parts water and applying it to the stained area. Let it sit for a few minutes before continuing.
Step 4: Wash in Hot Water
After pre-treating, you can wash the fabric in hot water in your washing machine. Be sure to add a mild detergent when washing, and avoid bleaching agents or anything else that could damage the fabric. After the cycle is complete, check the stain again to make sure it’s gone. If not, repeat Steps 3 and 4.
Step 5: Let Air Dry
Once you’re sure the stain is gone, let the fabric air dry. Do not put it in the dryer, since this could damage the delicate fabric.
