Step 1: Blot up excess sauce

The first step in tomato stain removal is to take a clean cloth and blot up as much of the excess tomato sauce as possible. Don’t scrub it, just apply gentle pressure and dab cloth onto the stained area. This will help remove any remaining moisture in fabric and make the next steps easier.

Step 2: Prepare a solution

Create a cleaning solution by mixing one tablespoon of liquid dish soap, one teaspoon of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water in a bowl or bucket. Carefully submerge stained capris into solution and let sit for 30 minutes.

Step 3: Launder the capris

Take the capris out of cleaning solution and rinse them off with cold running water. Then, wash the capris on the hottest cycle that is safe for the fabric. Be sure to use a detergent that is formulated for treating tough stains.

Step 4: Check capris

After the garment is washed and dried, inspect it to see if the tomato stains have been removed. If the stain has not been removed, repeat the above steps until the stain has disappeared.

Additional Tips

  • If you don’t have dish soap, a mild laundry detergent can also be used.
  • Be sure to avoid using hot water as it can set the stain.
  • If you’re in a rush, you can spot treat the stain with a stain remover and then launder.
  • Dry the capris in direct sunlight. The UV rays can help fade the tomato stains.
