Tomatoes are delicious and versatile ingredients that make a great addition to many dishes – but they can also be a bit of a nuisance when it comes to cleaning up afterwards! Tomato stains can be particularly difficult to remove from calico fabric, as the fibres are quite tightly woven, making it harder for water and detergent to penetrate. However, following the steps below, you’ll be able to get rid of those pesky tomato stains in no time.
The first step is to blot the stain with a damp cloth or paper towel. This will help to lift some of the juice from the fabric, making it easier to tackle later.
Once you’ve blotted stain, you should then soak the fabric in a mixture of hot water and laundry detergent. Leave the fabric to soak for at least 30 minutes, or overnight if stain is particularly bad.
After the soaking period, rinse the fabric thoroughly in cold water. This will help to ensure that all the detergent is washed away, leaving your calico fresh and stain-free.
Finally, allow fabric to air dry. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, as this can cause fading or discolouration. Once it is completely dry, your calico should be free of any tomato stains!
