The first step to cleaning a tomato stain is to blot the stain with paper towels or a cloth. Apply pressure to the stain but do not rub it in. By doing this, you will be able to absorb some of the moisture and lift away some of the tomato juice that has stained the fabric.
Once excess tomato juice has been blotted away, pretreat stain with a prewash stain remover or liquid laundry detergent. Rub the pretreatment into the stain gently with your fingertips. Allow the pretreatment to sit on the stain for at least 15 minutes before laundering.
Machine or hand wash the business suit with a mild laundry detergent. Be sure to pay attention to the care label on suit and launder according to the manufacturer's instructions. If the stain persists after laundering, repeat steps one and two.
If stain still persists, try treating the area with a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. Put this mixture into a spray bottle and spritz the stain. Then, use a white cloth to gently rub the stain until it lifts away from the fabric. After the stain has been removed, rinse the area with cold water.
Allow the business suit to air dry. Heat from a dryer or an iron can set a tomato stain and make it more difficult to remove. After the suit has dried, inspect area to make sure the stain has been fully removed.
