When a tomato comes in contact with cloth, it leaves an unsightly stain that’s not easy to remove. But don’t despair yet – you can still salvage your blouse by following these steps:

  • Dab the tomato stain as quickly as possible with a paper towel or clean cloth.
  • If the stain is still fresh, rinse it in cold running water.
  • Apply a mild detergent directly to the tomato stain.
  • Blot the stain using a damp cloth.
  • If traces of the stain still remain, apply a paste made from 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar.
  • Let the paste sit for 10 minutes and then rinse in cold water.
  • Repeat the process until the stain is gone.

Once stain has been removed, put your blouse in the washing machine with a laundry detergent and use the hottest setting possible. If the stain persists, try using a cloth-safe bleach. Be sure to check tags on your garment to know if the fabric can handle bleach.

If none of these methods work, it might be time to replace your blouse. Knowing how to remove tomato stains can help – now you can continue to enjoy your favorite clothes without fear of a tomato-related mishap.
