Since bandanas are usually made of cotton, it is important that you use a detergent specifically for washing cotton fabrics to ensure that no damage is done to the material. Try dabbing a mixture of detergent and water onto the stain first before attempting to scrub it out with a bristle brush. Once the stain has been treated, rinse bandana with cold water until the stain is gone. Repeat this process if necessary.

If the stain is particularly stubborn, you may need to use a pre-treatment solution or a spotting agent. These solutions help break down the stain molecules and make it easier to remove stain. Use a white cloth and gently apply the pre-treatment solution to the stained area, then allow a few minutes for it to soak in. Rinse the area afterwards with cold water to remove the pre-treatment solution and any remaining stain.

You can also try using a bleach solution to remove the stain. Make sure you check the care label on the bandana to determine if the fabric can safely be submerged in a bleach solution. If so, mix one quarter cup of bleach with one gallon of cold water, and soak the bandana for no longer than 5 minutes. After the soak, rinse the bandana with cold water and then launder as normal.

Finally, never use an iron or hot water on tomato stains as this could set the stain in, making it impossible to remove. Follow these easy steps and you should have no problem removing tomato stains from your bandanas.
